The Demorest Glorious Fourth of July Celebration has been an area tradition on Independence Day for more than 125 years, and city leaders say they hope that continues for decades to come.
This year, the day’s schedule is changing and is as follows for Monday:
- 8 a.m. – Run for Glory sponsored by The Torch
- 2 p.m. – Food and merchandise vendors begin setup, activities begin at Demorest Springs Park and will include a bounce house
- 4 p.m. – Parade will begin, featuring Habersham Central Band of Blue Director Ryan Dukes and the band. Going back to the parade’s early traditions, city leaders say there will be a focus of children this year. Children are invited to bring their bicycles, wagons, or Power Wheels-type vehicles.
- 7 p.m. – Concerts in Demorest Springs Park featuring Gregg Erwin and Steve Bryson begin. Those attending are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the music. There will be a break between the end of the concert and the beginning of the fireworks to allow people to walk from the park to the viewing area.
- 9:30ish – Fireworks from Brent Lee Moore Park behind the old Demorest Elementary School (future Demorest City Hall) on Central Avenue at Alabama Street.. Fireworks this year will be higher and should be visible from a wider area, but prime viewing locations are expected to be around the old school.
T-shirts featuring the city’s recently-delivered new fire truck will be available for purchase throughout Monday’s activities.
City leaders invite everyone to come out and celebrate the nation’s 246th birthday in Demorest.
