Snellville house fire leaves family of five displaced from home

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

A family of five was displaced from their Snellville home following an accidental fire Sunday night.

At 11:35 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a house fire in the 1300 block of Tree Lane SW in unincorporated Snellville. A resident confirmed during the call that a grill on the back deck of the home was in flames, but everyone was outside of the house.

Upon arriving at the scene, crews found that the large two story home was burning from the rear side, the fire heavily concentrated on the back deck.

The family reported that one of the occupants smelled smoke and the family evacuated as soon as possible.

Two fire engines were able to access the  gated residential driveway, and deployed multiple fire attack hose lines. Initially, the crew attempted to attack the fire from the inside, but evacuated due to the flames.  The fire was finally brought under control at around 1 a.m., although the home suffered heavy fire damage.

The residents said they were using the grill earlier that day, and a fire investigator determined that the fire was accidental. One man sustained a minor burn injury while making an effort to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. He was treated and released at the scene.

The displaced  family included three adults and two children. They have declined assistance from the American Red Cross.
