More rental housing will be constructed in Baldwin if the city council approves a variance request Monday night.
The request from Grand View Investment Group LLC for nine acres at 950 Industrial Boulevard would waive the stormwater pond requirements from the city’s 2020 minimum development standards in favor of the ones that were in place roughly 15 years ago when development of the property originally began.
That property was a victim of the housing collapse of 2007 and 2008, then fell into the ownership of the bank for a time.
Grand View Investment Group LLC of Winterville plans to construct 58 multi-family units, a layout that would be developed at a lesser density than the original plan.
“This will be actually a rent type of community,” Mayor Joe Elam said. “They will have the opportunity to move forward with that if we can successfully have our second reading.”
Monday night’s council meeting will be held at 6:30 at the Baldwin Courtroom on Willingham Avenue.
