By AccessWDUN Staff

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Lumpkin County kept the high octane offense going Friday night as they took down Riverside Miltary behind a stout rushing attack, 61-7.

Including the two preseason scrimmages, Heath Webb's offense is averaging over 50 points per contest, including back-to-back performances of over 60 points. The Indians took down Banks County last week in a preseason scrimmage, 62-7.

The Indians tallied 327 yards of rushing on the night on just 31 carries, led by Mason Sullens, who racked up 121 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries.

Lumpkin wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Sullens scored on the first three drives of the night from seven, six and 10 yards out, respectively, to give the home team a 21-0 lead after just X minutes of play.

Riverside responded with a 79-yard pitch and catch from Jeremiah Shaw to Idan Azani that trimmed the lead to 14, but the Indians took over in the second quarter.

Cal Faulkner scored his first rushing touchdown of the night on a 28-yard scamper before Sullens capped his night off with an 11-yard run that gave the Indians a 34-7 lead. After Faulkner’s second time hitting paydirt stretched the lead to 41-7, Will Wood scooped up a fumble and rumbled in from 16 yards out to bring the score to 47-7.

After a lengthy lightning delay during the halftime break, Gerald Walker and Nolan Matthews each had a rushing touchdown for the Indians to bring Lumpkin their first season-opening win since 2018.

Shaw finished with 36 yards on nine rushes to lead the Eagles on the ground, while Azani had 13 rushing yards to go with his 79 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Lumpkin County will head to Union County next week, while Riverside will travel to King’s Ridge looking for their first win of the season.
