Charges are pending against the driver responsible for a three-vehicle crash in Lumpkin County that hospitalized four people on Friday.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety says Dahlonega resident Jennifer Boyett, 37, was the at-fault driver in the accident, which happened on Long Branch Road.
Boyett's SUV was southbound when it crossed the centerline, causing it to strike a northbound SUV on the driver's side of the vehicle. That vehicle then left the roadway, overturned, and came to a rest upside-down.
The GDPS says Boyett's vehicle, however, continued moving against the flow of traffic, striking a third vehicle in a head-on collision. Boyett's vehicle and the victim's passenger car would come to a rest in the northbound lane of Long Branch Road.
Boyett was injured in the crash, as was her passenger, Sherro Varsei, 61, of Dawsonville.
Also injured in the crash were the occupants of the vehicle that overturned in the initial collision. The driver was identified as Jane Orebaugh, 79, of Young Harris. Her passenger was identified as Robert Orebaugh, 91, also of Young Harris.
These four individuals were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle, Marietta resident Austin Mathis, 20, was the only person involved in the accident that escaped without injuries.
Long Branch Road was shut down for roughly an hour as cleanup and investigative efforts were undertaken.
No word was given regarding the specifc charges the Boyett will face.
