Football: Lakeview makes head coaching hire

By AccessWDUN Staff

Gainesville, Ga. — It didn't take Lakeview Academy long to find its next head football coach.

Just seven days after former coach Lee Shaw left for Metter High School, Lakeview lured former East Hall standout Lee Coleman away from Georgia Military College Prep School to become the third head coach to lead the program.

“We are extremely pleased that Lee Coleman has accepted this position because we know he will be good for Lakeview’s football program as well as its players and families,” head of school John Simpson said. “Lee’s football experience, as both a player and a coach, will be hugely beneficial to Lakeview.”

In four seasons as head coach at GMC, Coleman led the prep school to three straight playoff berths and one region championship. He leaves GMC with a 23-20 career record.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Coleman will teach high school physical education.

Coleman, a East Hall and Northwestern University graduate, was most recently head football coach at Georgia Military College Preparatory School, which won the Region 7A championship in 2021. Coleman’s team had three consecutive playoff appearances and in 2021 averaged 35 points per game.

Coleman was a scholarship wide receiver and letterman at Northwestern, which he attended from 2006-2011. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in education and social policy and later completed a Master of Arts in Teaching (physical education) from Georgia College and State University.

“The fact that Coleman successfully combined his football and academic careers at Northwestern is meaningful to Lakeview because our student-athletes work as hard in the classroom as they do on the field,” said Simpson. “He understands the importance of classroom accountability.”
Coleman’s career includes an earlier five-year stint as wide receiver coach at Georgia Military, which produced Division 1 signees to Purdue and Middle Tennessee State. At the University of Arizona, he was an offensive graduate assistant working directly with wide receivers."
