Football: Three more massive region battles headline radio coverage

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

Flowery Branch gets the nailbiter award for Week 8. The Falcons roared back to beat Clarke Central and remain in the Region 8-5A playoff race. Josh Oliver's go-head touchdown with 1:20 left and a massive defensive stand on Clarke Central's final drive of the game sealed the win for the Falcons.

In other action last week, Cherokee Bluff stayed alive in the region standings with a win over Cedar Shoals. White County finally shook off Dawson County to remain in the race for a region title, and Buford, East Forsyth and East Jackson won big.

Week 8 has several big region games on the schedule, and three of those showdowns are on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com.

East Forsyth at Cherokee Bluff –. There is no other way to put it for Cherokee Bluff: The Bears are in a must-win situation to keep their playoff hopes alive. Cherokee Bluff improved their odds last week with a win over Cedar Shoals, but a loss to East Forsyth on Friday would make a berth almost impossible. As for the Broncos, they control their playoff fate right now. Of course, they still have Region 8-4A juggernaut No. 2 North Oconee, Madison County and North Hall on the schedule. A win for the Broncos will go a long way in their home playoff and region title hopes. It was a 14-7 win last season at home for the Broncos. They are rolling right now. Will this be another tight battle or a runaway for the Broncos? You can listen to the game on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).

Winder-Barrow at Flowery Branch – Flowery Branch kept their state playoff hopes alive with an impressive come-from-behind win over favorite Clarke Central in Athens. It was a win that shocked the rest of Region 8-5A. However, head coach Jason Tester wasn't shocked at all, saying they were the underdogs in the game and took it from the Gladiators. Winder-Barrow comes into the game off a 42-0 loss to No. 4 Jefferson last week, so the Bulldoggs will be looking to avenge that loss against the Falcons. This is another must-win situation for both teams, which should make for a fantastic game. You can hear the game on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).

North Hall at Madison County – This one has home playoff hopes on the line for both teams. The two Region 8-4A foes have lost to North Oconee, making this game huge. North Hall fell to No. 2 North Oconee on Friday. Madison County rolled past Chestatee in Sardis. This game will feature a clash of styles on offense. The Red Devils' triple option has been hard to stop for everyone, but North Oconee and North Hall's offense has been tough to tame for everybody but North Oconee. The defense will be key for both in this matchup. This game has fourth-quarter magic written all over it. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
