Softball: Jefferson falls 2 back in 8-5A with 3 games left; Buford rolls

JEFFERSON, Ga. — With just one week and three games left in the regular season, Jefferson dropped a crucial game to Loganville at home on Wednesday.

The Lady Red Devils scored six runs in the fifth to erase an early deficit en route to a 9-5 win over the Lady Dragons.

The loss dropped Jefferson (15 – 6,11-4 Region 8-5A) two games behind first place Eastside in the standings. Eastside won 2 of 3 games in the series with the Lady Dragons during the season.

After Loganville had taken a quick 2-0 lead in the first, Avery Hays homered for Jefferson to jump-start a three-run inning. Alivia Gober also had a RBI hit in the innings.

It stayed that way until Loganville’s big fifth inning.

Gober finished with two of Jefferson’s seven hits.

Addison Self took the loss for Jefferson, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits. She struck out one.

CENTRAL GWINNETT 0 (3 inn)

The No. 1-ranked Lady Wolves improved to 23-0, 13-0 in Region 8-7A play with a win on the road.

Sophomore Addie Rackley led the Buford offense with two hits, including her first career grand slam, and driving in 6 runs. Junior Carolyn Cagle had three hits and an RBI, senior Taryn Gibbs had two hits and two RBI, and sophomore Kadyn Gabrels had two hits and one RBI for the Lady Wolves.

Rackley also earned her sixth win of the season in the circle, striking out five without allowing any hits or walks in two innings. Senior Emma Grace Williams relieved Rackley in the third and struck out the side to end the game.
