DANIELSVILLE, Ga. – East Forsyth came back to within a possession three times Friday night on the road, but the Broncos couldn't find the final answer as they fell to Madison County, 50-34.
"They are a good football team," said head coach Brian Allison. "The quarterback and the fullback was who we needed to stop tonight, and we didn't stop them."
Red Raider quarterback Camden Smith finished with 216 yards on the ground and completed just one pass, a 67-yard touchdown to Will Kettle to push the lead out to 21-7 midway through the second quarter. Fullback Zahkari Shiflet ate up 124 yards on the ground as well.
Madison County got out to an early 14-0 lead as Smith took his first carry 65 yards for a touchdown before Shirley scored from 29 yards out six minutes later. East Forsyth finally got it going on a Cannon Hunter 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that swung some momentum in the Broncos' direction.
"We just waited a little bit twoo long to get going with it," said Allison. "We can't wait like that to get the momentum in a game like this."
After Smith's pass to Kettle, Tripp Morris got it going for East on an 18-yard run to trim the lead to 21-14, but Shiflet punched it in from a yard out to take a 28-14 lead into halftime.
The Bronco defense stood strong early in the third to set up Troy Hoover to run in from three yards out to get to a 28-20 advantage, but from there, the Red Raiders couldn't be stopped, scoring on the next two drives to pull away and get the win.
East Forsyth got 288 yards passing out of Brock Szackas, who threw 20-for-36, while Morris ran for 136 yards and a touchdown.
The Broncos will look to bounce back next week at home against Chestatee.
