Football: Three key playoff games highlight Week 1 playoff schedule

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

The final week of the regular season was highlighted by East Forsyth's win against North Hall at the Brickyard. The win catapulted the Broncos to the No. 3 seed in the Class 4A playoffs.

White County held off Gilmer to clinch the No. 4 seed in the Class 3A playoffs.

Other than that, Week 12 was quiet. This week, 15 area teams begin their quest for a state title,  and Jacobs Media will have three games on its airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com.

CHECK OUT THE FINAL REGION STANDINGS HERE.

Wheeler at Buford – Buford has been on a war path since losing to rival Mill Creek earlier this season. That loss altered the Wolves' path to the Benz. It also has them playing some of their best football down the stretch. It's the Class 7A playoffs, and there are no easy games. However, the Wolves, behind Georgia-commit Dylan Raiola and a defense that is playing well, have all the tools to blow past Wheeler on Friday. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).

Jackson at Jefferson – The biggest question is: Can Jefferson shake the past two first-round playoff exits this season? The Dragons have struggled the last two seasons in the first round. The good news for the Dragons in 2023, they head into the playoffs healthy. Jackson will have its hands full trying to stop the Dragons' offense. The Dragons not only have Sammy Brown in the backfield, but Gavin Markey and the passing game have made vast improvements. And let's not forget about the Jefferson defense. The Dragons should be dancing into the second round Friday night. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).

South Paulding at Gainesville – Gainesville has been destroying people all season. Friday night marks the beginning of the march to the Benz for the Big Red. After losing the title game last year to Hughes, there's only one thing that will complete the season for the No. 1 Red Elephants, and that's a state title. Gainesville should advance with ease on Friday at City Park. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
