A teacher at Seckinger High School in Gwinnett County was charged Tuesday with the 2020 murder of a 2-year-old boy in Houston County.
Kianna Davis, 32, of Norcross, is being charged with felony murder, malice murder and cruelty to children, according to reporting from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Along with Davis, Kiyon Benton, a resident of Decatur, faces similar charges but has not been arrested yet.
Davis was arrested over the weekend by authorities in Warner Robins, Houston County and the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to information obtained by the AJC from the Houston County DA’s office.
The school system in Gwinnett County has confirmed Davis is a teacher at Seckinger High School, where she started in July of 2022. Prior to that, she reportedly worked at Peachtree Ridge High School since January 2021.
Davis and Benton have been accused of fatally beating Karte Ambrose with an unknown object in November 2020, causing a lacerated liver, court documents obtained by the AJC state.
“In accordance with Gwinnett County Public Schools policies, the district’s Human Resources Division has launched an investigation into the matter,” Seckinger High School Principal Jimmy Fisher told the AJC. “To be clear, the teacher in question has been away from our school for nearly two weeks and will not be permitted on campus while this situation remains unresolved.”
Davis is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
