Girls basketball: Dawson, Bluff, NoFo, White, Towns open with wins; Branch, Jackson Co. Johnson fall

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Abby Slaton poured in 31 points to lead Dawson County to a stunning 66-39 win over Flowery Branch on the road on Tuesday in both teams’ season openers.

The Lady Tigers (1-0) used a huge first half behind 24 points from Slaton to grab the lead and then cruise to the win. Dawson County led 21-10 at the end of the first quarter and took a 48-19 lead into halftime.

Eva Bishop scored 16 points for Dawson County.

Amyia Scott led Flowery Branch with 11 points. Jayda Gudz and Kaitlin Cangiolosi each had 9 points, and Jess Tamplin added 8 points for the Lady Falcons (0-1).


CHEROKEE BLUFF 70
LANIER CHRISTIAN 25

The Lady Bears stormed out to 35 first quarter points en route to the lopsided win at home to open their season.

Claire Carlson poured in 9 of her game-high 15 points in the opening frame. She added 5 assists and 4 steals for the game as well. Brooklyn Phillips had 9 of her 11 points in the second half. 

Kaitlin Cook added 8 points and 4 steals and Emma Reynolds had 7 points, 2 steals, and 2 blocks for the Lady Bears (1-0).

Cherokee Bluff next will travel to Clarke Central on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.


FRANKLIN COUNTY 66
JOHNSON 35

The Lady Lions opened the game with an 18-3 run en route to the win at home.

Franklin County continued the attack, opening up a 40-14 lead by halftime.

Ta'Kaiha Winkfield had 18 points, and Roniyah Johnson had 17 points for Franklin County (1-0).

Ana Garcia had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, to pace Johnson (1-1). Destiny Ramirez had 10 points for the Lady Knights.


NORTH FORSYTH 72
FORSYTH CENTRAL 28

The Lady Raiders opened their season with a lopsided win on the road.

London Weaver scored 24 points and pulled down 6 rebounds to lead North Forsyth (1-0). Lindsey Pirkle added 8 points and 10 rebounds, while Gabbie Gliatta and Emmae Rose each had 8 points.

Sophia Parks had 7 points for North Forsyth.


WHITE COUNTY 60,
TALLULAH FALLS 36

White County jumped out to a 27-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in the 36-point win over Tallulah Falls on Tuesday. 

The Lady Warriors had nine players in the scoring column, with Mya Yeh scoring 12 points to lead the effort. Kylie Watkins chipped in 11 points, and Emma Lightsey had 9. 


ATHENS ACADEMY 51,
JACKSON COUNTY 42

The Lady Panthers dropped their opener to Athens Academy on Tuesday. 

Brooklyn Bruce led the Panthers with a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Athens Academy was led by Kendall Lawson with 15 points and Millie Prymire with 11 points.

The Lady Panthers host Winder-Barrow on Friday night at 7 p.m.


TOWNS COUNTY 55, 
COPPER BASIN 47

Brelan Sieveking scored 23 points, pulled three rebounds, dished out three assists and grabbed three steals to lead the Lady Indians past Copper Basin on Tuesday. 

Scotlyn Fain had nine points and five rebounds, Ansleigh Hardin scored 8 points, Kaleigh Beaver chipped in 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and had 4 steals, Laura Mauldin scored five points and pulled 6 rebounds, and Emma Lallement pulled10 rebounds and scored 4 points.
