Boys basketball: Towns County, Union County, Dawson County, Bluff all win; White County, Branch, MCA, LCA lose

HIAWASSEE, Ga. — Towns County opened its season with a huge 71-22 win over Taliaferro County at home on Tuesday.

Senior Kade McConnell led the Indians with 12 points. Sophomores Cruz Kitchens and Dustin Barrett both had 10 points a piece for the Indians.

Towns County next takes on Highlands (NC) on Wednesday at home.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 86, 
LANIER CHRISTIAN 59

The Bears (1-0) led from the start and rolled past LCA on Tuesday at home.

Logan Holmes led the Bears with 21 points, four rebounds, five steals and six assists. Boston Kersh added 17 points and eight rebounds. Andy Quirarte hit 15 points and three rebounds, and Cooper Glover chipped in 11 points, eight boards, four steals and six assists. 

Bluff will play at Banks County in the Jackson EMC Tip-off tournament on Saturday. Game time is 1:30 p.m.


DAWSON COUNTY 54, 
FLOWERY BRANCH 40

Dawson County improved to 2-0 with a 14-point win at home over the Falcons (0-1) on Tuesday.

Caden Reed led the Tigers with 17 points, while Ethan Parker poured in 15 and Trey Harvey had 10.

It was a back-and-forth first half, with the Tigers leading 13-12 at the end of the opening period. The game was tied at halftime, 20-20.

Dawson County took control in the second half, extending the lead 34-27 by the end of the third quarter.

Jeremiah Ware scored 20 points to lead the Falcons. Landon Mealor finished with 12 points. 
 
Flowery Branch plays Lumpkin County on Saturday in the East Jackson Thanksgiving tournament. Tip-off is 3 p.m. Dawson County will play Pope on Saturday in the North Forsyth Tip-off tournament. Game time is 5:30 p.m.


PROMISE PREP 57, 
MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 56

MCA (1-1) led the entire game until the Promise Prep Knights surged ahead on a run in the fourth quarter. The Knights capitalized on two critical turnovers to finish the frame on a 6-0 run.

Bony Shindani finished with a game-high 25 points, nailing 5 three-pointers for Promise Prep.

Tarell Grant and Bode Fisher led the Eagles throughout. Grant scored a team-high 20 points. Fisher finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Nigel Clayton chipped in with 10 points.


UNION COUNTY 74, 
RABUN COUNTY 60

Houston Henry scored 25 points to lead the Panthers past Rabun County on the road. 

Henry was one of three Panthers in double figures. Hayden Hughes scored 16 points, and Juoz Ellis had 15 in the win. 

The Panthers (1-0) grabbed a 32-22 lead by halftime. They pushed the lead 54-38 by the end of the third quarter. 

Rabun County, behind Trent Thompson, outscored the Panthers in the final quarter, 22-20. He scored nine of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter. 

Huey Blalock added 13 points, and Michael Bone had 12. 


TALLULAH FALLS 53, 
WHITE COUNTY 50

White County rallied in the second quarter to tie the game at 25 at halftime but failed to complete the rally in the second half in the three-point loss. 

Noah Futch led the Warriors with 15 points. David Boman added 11 in the loss. 

Neyo Bain scored 14 points to lead Tallulah Falls.
