GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Gainesville didn't have a slow start Friday night as they scored the first two touchdowns of the night to advance to the Class 6A quarterfinals with a 35-12 win over Blessed Trinity.
Baxter Wright got it going through the air early on as he found Gavin Hall for a 26-yard touchdown with 7:37 left in the first to go up 7-0. After a trio of punts, the Red Elephants punched it in from two yards out in the arms of Wright to double their lead.
The Titans kicked a 46-yard field goal and got a safety late in the second quarter to trim the lead to 14-5, but Gainesville responded in the third quarter with three rushing touchdowns by Hall to stretch the lead to 35-5. Blessed Trinity scored midway through the fourth to get to the final score.
Wright finished with 232 total offensive yards, 139 of which came through the air. Eric Hart had 100 yards receiving.
Gainesville will hit the road next week to take on Woodward Academy next week in the quarterfinals.
