Boys basketball: Commerce snaps losing streak; Towns, Buford, Union win; Dawson, NHall, Bluff lose

COMMERCE, Ga. — Commerce snapped a three-game losing streak with a 68-63 win over Tallulah Falls on Tuesday in the East Jackson Thanksgiving Tournament.

Freshman Ty Sorrells led the Tigers (3-3) with 17 points. Junior Evan Peters added 16 points, Hudson Dudish 15, and Evan Martinez 11 for Commerce.

The Tigers are off until playing host to Franklin County next week.


ST. PIUS 82,
NORTH HALL 59

The Trojans suffered their first loss of the season in the finals of the North Hall Thanksgiving Tournament on Tuesday.

The Class 6A 6th-ranked Golden Lions scored 25 points in each of the first and second quarters to jump out to a 50-35 halftime lead. They outscored North Hall (2-1) 23-9 in the third quarter to blow the game open.

Aiden Portee scored 14 points to lead St. Pius.

Andrew Bales had 9 points to lead North Hall. JT Chester added 8 points, 6 in the second half. Matt Ray scored all 7 of his points in the first half.


BUFORD 75,
TUCKER 73 2OT

Asa Williams and Brennan Wansley scored 20 points each to lead the Wolves to the double-overtime win in the Sprayberry Thanksgiving tournament on Tuesday. 

Josiah Lawson had 34 to lead Tucker. 


WESLEYAN 74
DAWSON COUNTY 64

Wesleyan outscored the Tigers 24-8 in the second quarter and never looked back en route to the win in the Raider Classic at North Forsyth on Tuesday. 

Trey Harvey led the Tigers with 24 points, and Ethan Parker had 16. 

Dawson County led 22-17 after the first quarter but trailed 41-30 at the half. The Tigers could overcome the 11-point deficit but did outpace the Wolves, 34-33, in the second half. 


TOWNS COUNTY 63, 
HIGHLANDS, NC 25

The Indians (4-0) outscored Highlands, NC, 37-6 in the second half to get the win on Tuesday.

Zane Floyd and Conner Chastain scored 11 points each to lead the Indians. Tanner Cunningham chipped in eight points.

Towns County will travel to Union County on Nov. 28.  


RIVER RIDGE 64,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 58

River Ridge rallied to the win, outscoring the Bears 26-17 in the final quarter, on Tuesday in the Jackson EMC Preseason tournament at Jefferson.

Cherokee Bluff (2-2) led 41-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

Logan Holmes led the Bears with 22 points. Cooper Glover had 10, and Bryce Horton had nine.

The Bears will begin Region 8-4A play at Seckinger on Dec. 1.


UNION COUNTY 64,
RABUN COUNTY 57

Huey Blalock and Tristan Burrell led Rabun County's fourth-quarter rally to force overtime in the championship of the Piedmont Hardwood Classic at Piedmont University on Monday. 

However, the Panthers powered past the Wildcats in overtime to take the title. 

Huey Blalock finished with a game-high 26 points, and Burrell had 14 for the Wildcats. The two combined for 17 points in the fourth-quarter rally. 

Houston Henry led the Panthers with 25 points, and Hayden Hughes netted 15.
