Lanierland: 64th tournament begins on Dec. 27

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

The 64th Lanierland Basketball Tournament will tip off on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at West Hall High School.

The fourth-seeded Cherokee Bluff girls will take on No. 5 Lakeview at 9 a.m. to get the state's longest-running holiday tournament underway.

In one of the most intriguing matchups in the first round, Lakeview and Cherokee Bluff are led by a new head coach and have a roster full of talent. Both squads have the firepower to make this one of the best games on Day 1.

Last season, the Gainesville girls knocked off North Hall to capture the 63rd tournament crown. Meanwhile, the Gainesville boys pulled away from North Hall in the fourth quarter to win their sixth title in seven years.

Day 2 will begin at 9 a.m. with the consolation games at Lakeview Academy on Dec. 28, and the final day will be at Johnson High School in Oakwood. Games also begin at 9 a.m on Dec. 29.

Once again, Jacobs Media will give basketball fans across Northeast Georgia the opportunity to listen live on radio and online. The opening round and semifinals will be broadcast live on 94.5 FM The Lake, streamed at accesswdun.com. You'll hear the championship games on Friday live on AM 550/FM 102.9 WDUN. AccessWDUN.com will have coverage of every game with stories, photos and video highlights.
