By AccessWDUN staff

Authorities have released the name of the woman who was killed Thursday morning after she was struck by a train off Dorsey Street in Gainesville.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office has identifed the woman as Bonnie Carrillo, 50, who was said to be a member of Gainesville’s homeless community.

Investigators responded just before 7 a.m. to the scene on Dorsey Street near Industrial Boulevard and found Carrillo with critical injuries.

She was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where she died from her injuries.

Investigators believe Carrillo was crossing the train tracks and may have possibly tried to retrieve an item she had dropped. An approaching train was unable to stop and struck Carrillo as she was searching the tracks.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office is working with Norfolk Southern Railway on the investigation.
