The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of a Wednesday afternoon fire that left an unoccupied Demorest home a total loss.
Habersham County Emergency Services received a call at 4:17 p.m. reporting a house fire in the area of Wheeler Road in Demorest. The caller told dispatchers the home was abandoned.
The 800-square-foot structure was fully engulfed when crews arrived.
According to a press release, the fire was contained by 4:55 p.m., and all units were cleared by 6 p.m.
No injuries were reported. However, Wheeler Road was shut down at Garrett Road in order to protect a supply line attached to a hydrant across the road from the fire.
