Northeast Georgia Medical Center Cancer Center receives national accreditation

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Cancer Centers in Braselton, Gainesville and Toccoa have officially become the only accredited radiation oncology locations north of Atlanta.

NGMC received national accrediation from the American Society for Radiation Oncology, which evaluated the organization's radiation oncology service’s safety and quality processes.

A press release from the medical center explained that  the radiation oncology services must adhere to patient center care by promoting effective communication, coordinated treatments and strong patient engagement.

"It is an honor to be recognized for the high-quality radiation oncology care we provide," Dr. Geoffrey Weidner, a radiation oncologist with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group and medical director of radiation oncology at NGMC, said. "No one wants to undergo cancer treatment but knowing that your radiation oncology team meets such high standards provides reassurance that you couldn’t be in better hands."

NGMC offers a range of cancer services including cancer prevention and screening; early diagnosis; cancer staging; advanced treatment through medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgery; patient navigation; rehabilitation; and more.

Each year, NGMC’s physicians and clinical staff care for nearly 3,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients at it’s locations in Braselton, Gainesville, Toccoa and Winder.
