Lawrenceville pedestrian dies after being struck by multiple vehicles

By AccessWDUN staff

A pedestrian was killed Sunday night after being struck by multiple vehicles in the southern portion of Lawrenceville.

The Lawrenceville Police Department said Monday evening that the accident occurred in the area of Grayson Highway near Crain Drive around 11 p.m.

"A Lawrenceville Police Officer patrolling the area...noticed something in the roadway and a vehicle in the center lane with its hazard lights activated," the department said in a media release. "As the officer got out to investigate, he learned that what he saw in the roadway was the lifeless body of a male."

A investigation revealed that the pedestrian - whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin - actually stepped in front of the first vehicle as it was traveling down the roadway.

Following that first collision, police say at least two other vehicles then struck the man's body.

"The first driver that struck the pedestrian immediately pulled over and attempted to render aid along with a second driver," the release said. "The third driver, upon learning that a pedestrian had been struck, got back into his vehicle and fled the scene."

Police say the third driver was later tracked down and taken into custody on traffic-related charges. That driver's identity was not released.
