Gainesville UPS employee arrested for allegedly stealing packages worth $25K

A supervisor at the UPS on Centennial Drive in Gainesville was arrested Thursday morning on allegations that he stole multiple packages worth more than $25,000 from his employer.

According to Derreck Booth, public information officer with the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Parker Lee Sheridan, 22, was arrested at his workplace on one count each of theft by taking and theft by deception. Both charges were felonies.

Investigators believe Sheridan stole packages containing gold, silver and ammunition while working as a supervisor at the facility. He allegedly committed the crime for more than one year, stealing over 100 items in that time frame. The agency said they believe Sheridan sold some of the stolen items for cash.

"Our investigation revealed that he had discovered what the exterior of certain packages that contained items he was interested in looked like," Booth said. "So just by studying the packages he was able to target the ones that were likely to contain the items he was after."

The sheriff's office started investigating the thefts early in February after UPS officials report the crimes to the agency.

Sheridan was booked into the Hall County Jail following his arrest. He was released Thursday evening after posting $27,700 bond.

Investigators were able to recover some of the stolen items and were working to recover more as of the last report. The case remains under investigation.
