A free informational workshop discussing the basics of urban agriculture operations will be held at the Gainesville Civic Center in late July.
The event will be held on July 25 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and includes a free breakfast.
The workshop is being organized by the Hall County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts, and is intended for "local farmers, urban agricultural enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to learn more about getting started in urban agriculture," according to a release sent to local media on Wednesday afternoon.
"This workshop will discuss general practices and options for starting an urban agriculture operation such as soil testing, raised beds, non-organic vs organic, and pollinators," the release said.
The event will also feature a local farmer offering their experience and perspective on urban agriculture, and provide information on state and federal programs that can offer assistance to interested attendees.
Registration is required in order to attend the free event, and anyone interested can sign up online at www.gacd.us/events.
