Gwinnett County Police identify shooter in Tuesday evening Dacula incident, investigated as 'self-defense shooting'

The Gwinnett County Police Department Thursday afternoon announced they had identified the shooter involved in the Tuesday shooting of a Lawrenceville man in Dacula.

Steven Thomaston, 35, of Lawrenceville was the man who was shot and killed. The shooter reportedly knew Thomaston, according to officials. An altercation took place that led to the shooting, police said Thursday.

Detectives believe the incident is a case of self-defense and no charges are being filed at this time. While police have identified the shooter, their name was not publicly released.

As of 11:33 a.m. Wednesday:

The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a Tuesday evening shooting in Dacula that left a man from Lawrenceville dead

A release from the Gwinnett County Police Department said officers responded shortly after 10 p.m. to a “person shot call” on Stanley Road in Dacula.

Officers located Steven Thomaston, 35, of Lawrenceville, dead upon their arrival.

The Gwinnett County Crime Scene Unit was collecting evidence and information behind the shooting as of Wednesday morning.
