Dawson County authorities warn of paving and pine straw scammers

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Dawson County Sheriff's Office warned this week of potential paving and pine straw scams in the area.

A Facebook post from the agency said reports were made recently about people claiming to have "leftover materials" and offering discounted paving deals. The agency said the scammers then have the victims sign a contract and charge full-price or over-price.

"Please do not fall for this scam and report suspicious activity," the post said.

Additionally, pine straw scammers have claimed they will lay pine straw at a set price per bale, then estimate a low number of bales. The scammers then later claim they laid a significantly higher number of bales, overcharging the customers.

"Don’t fall for these scams and protect yourself by researching businesses and quotes received," the post said. "Do not get pressured into accepting services. Do your homework!"
