Traffic pacing scheduled Friday for I-985 in Hall County

By Hamilton Keener Anchor / Reporter

The Georgia Department of Transportation and contractor E.R. Snell has announced an upcoming traffic pacing on Friday for the installation of concrete bridge beams on Elachee Drive over I-985, near milepost 18.5.

The pacing is set to begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. Severe congestion is possible on SR 13 and SR 53 due to the pacing process.

The Georgia DOT said the operation is a crucial step towards completing the deck and constructing a new bridge on Elachee Drive over I-985.

The traffic pacing process, set to commence at approximately milepost 15.0, will involve the coordination of police officers and contractor vehicles.

The pacing will temporarily close the on-ramp to I-985 Northbound (Exit 17), to prevent interference with the active traffic pacing and the work zone.

Motorists traveling on Northbound I-985 should anticipate potential delays and congestion, which could last for up to 20 minutes.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, adhere to reduced speed limits, and plan for potential delays during the process.
