Football: Jackson County shuts out Dawson County in Mobbs' debut

By AccessWDUN Staff

HOSCHTON, Ga. – Jackson County showed their teeth defensively and found the endzone twice in a 16-0 win over Dawson County to open the Korey Mobbs era Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, MJ Spurlin found his way into the endzone from 10 yards out to get the Panthers on the board with 5:16 to play in the first half, making the score 6-0. The game would remain at that score until the two minute mark in the third when Jackson County's Brice Rogers booted a 32-yard field goal to extend the lead to 9-0.

The Panther defense stood tall, allowing very little to the Tiger offense and giving the ball back to the offense for a final drive that bled the clock all the way down to 19 seconds before Spurlin found paydirt one more time from four yards out to get to the final score.

Spurlin finished the night with 27 carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns. The Tiger offense was only allowed 102 yards of total offense through the game.

Jackson County will head to Duluth next week, while the Tigers will play host to Lambert.
