GAINESVILLE, Ga. — East Forsyth handed North Oconee its first region loss and took over first place in Region 8-4A at the same time with a huge 4-2 win at home on Thursday.

The Lady Broncos (6-3, 5-1 Region 8-4A) trailed 2-0 after the Lady Titans  (8-2, 5-1 Region 8-4A) scored twice in the first. But Cadence Alberty was able to keep the powerful North Oconee offense at bay the rest of the way.

Alberty got the win going the distance, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six. That was enough to let the offense go to work.

East Forsyth got a run back in the fifth on a bases loaded walk to Emma Siver. The Lady Broncos tied the game in the sixth on an Ava Cowart RBI single and took the lead on a two-run double by Emma Smallwood.

Alberty was able to work around a one-out error in the seventh, getting a strikeout and a ground out to end the game with the tying runs on base.

East Forsyth next will travel to East Hall on Tuesday in another 8-4A battle.

BUFORD 4,
MOUNTAIN VIEW 3

The Lady Wolves opened up Region 8-7A play with a come-from-behind win at the Buford Softball Complex.

After a one-hour rain delay, Mountain View took an early 1-0 lead with a steal of home.

It stayed that way until Buford (8-0, 1-0 Region 8-7A) grabbed a 2-1 lead on a Mackenzie Pickens home run, her eighth of the season, in the third. The Lady Wolves pushed the lead 4-1 in the fifth inning when Mackenzie Pickens and Madison Pickens smacked back-to-back solo home runs.

That was enough for Caroline Stanton, who went the distance allowing five hits and striking out 16. However, she also walked seven.

Mountain View made it interesting, plating a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on a big Buford error. But Stanton was able to finish off the win getting a strikeout and a ground out to end the game with the tying and go-ahead runners on base.

Tavye Borders and Addie Rackley each had one hit for Buford.
