Softball: NoFo opens 8-6A with DH sweep; Dawson Co. knocks off No. 7 White Co.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — North Forsyth opened Region 8-6A in impressive style, sweeping Gainesville 15-0 and 19-0 on Tuesday.

Both games ended in the third inning due to the mercy rule.

In the opening game, the Lady Raiders (5-5, 2-0 Region 8-6A) scored nine in the first and six in the second. Logan Currie hit two home runs and drove in four runs and Mandi Peretti had three hits and knocked in three.

Taylor Pipkins, Lexie Durban, and Emma Wheeler each had two hits. Durban also had a pair of RBI. Addison Peck had an RBI double and Olivia Swaim and Karli Day both had a hit as well.

Trinity Bearden earned the win allowing just one hit in three innings and striking out three.

In the second game, North Forsyth exploded for 16 runs in the opening frame, sending 20 batters to the plate. Currie capped the big inning with a three-run triple. Brylee Britt had two hits and three RBI.

Bearden got the win in the second game, giving up just two hits and fanning two.

WHITE COUNTY 1

Layne Bailey belted a three-run home run in the fifth to spark Dawson County to a Region 7-3A win over No. 7-ranked White County on Tuesday. 

Bailey’s big hit broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth. She also earned the win, scattering eight hits and fanning four in a complete-game effort.

White County’s only run came in the sixth on a Logan Fain RBI single.

The victory kept the Lady Tigers (6-5, 4-1 Region 7-3A) within one game of first place, and No. 1-ranked Wesleyan, in the region standings. The loss for White County (10-2, 3-2 Region 7-3A) snapped a six-game win streak and dropped the Lady Warriors into fourth place.

Hailry Ramey pitched well in the loss for White County. Ramey went six innings, surrendering seven hits, including Bailey’s big blast, walked one and struck out one.
