CHICAGO — Reese Olson had the longest outing of his career Saturday night in picking up his third win of the season.
The former North Hall standout went seven innings, scattering four hits, all singles, and giving up no runs as the Detroit Tigers hammered the Chicago White Sox, 10-0.
The Tigers defense was outstanding behind him turning four double plays.
Three other times in 15 previous starts he pitched six innings. He only struck out one Chicago batter on Saturday but that gives the right-hander 79 Ks in 79 innings on the season. Olson (3-6) has surrendered 72 hits and walked 24. He also lowered his ERA by nearly half a run from 5.10 to 4.65.
“Reese Olson is going to be a really quality pitcher at this level,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told The Associated Press. “He continued to throw quality pitches and keep the ball on the ground. When he did give up a hit, he got the next ball on the ground for the double play.”
“They came out pretty aggressive and I got some quick outs with that,” Olson said. “And I got some great defense behind me. A few hard-hit balls just happened to find gloves.”
Olson’s next scheduled start is set for Friday against the White Sox again, this time in Detroit.
