Region 8-4A got underway Friday night, and the games did not disappoint.
East Hall ground out a tight win over Chestatee, 14-10, while Cherokee Bluff lost a heartbreaker to Madison County in overtime, 27-26. North Hall also got off to a 1-0 start in region play with a 28-6 win over Walnut Grove.
In other games, Gainesville ran away late to escape Athens with a 24-7 win over Clarke Central, Lumpkin County shut out Temple, 35-0, Jefferson ran away from Oconee County, 44-7, and Habersham Central got their first win of the season over Central Gwinnett, 17-10.
Banks County took down Franklin County 34-16, while Lakeview and Union County earned blowout wins.
