A Gwinnett County man was recently arrested for allegedly defrauding Liberty Mutual of $9,250,000.
According to a press release from Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King, Jose Martinez, 56, of Grayson, was charged with insurance fraud.
Martinez allegedly submitted a self-audit form to Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in 2016 with his company's 2016 Corporate Income Tax Return information.
Investigators determined the documents contained false information on his company's profits and employee pay.
"Martinez deceived the insurance company by altering the revenue generated by the company and the amount owed to his employees,” King said. “The fraudulent activity was done to hide his company’s true worker’s compensation liabilities and as a result receive greatly reduced insurance premiums. The suspect’s actions defrauded Liberty Mutual of more than $9,250,000 in premiums which should have been paid for the coverage liabilities received.”
Warrants were taken out against Martinez on Dec. 1 in Gwinnett County. He was then arrested on Dec. 5.
