Girls basketball: Bluff, Chestatee roll to 8-4A wins; Buford routs Mtn. View to open 8-7A; LCA loses

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Freshman Bristol Kersh had a huge game for Cherokee Bluff in a 64-49 win over North Oconee on Friday at home.

Kersh poured in 23 points, had 8 steals, dished out 5 assists, and pulled down 5 rebounds to pace the Lady Bears (13-2, 4-0 Region 8-4A North) to their fourth straight win.

Bluff led just 15-14 after the opening period but used a 20-11 second quarter to run out to a 35-25 halftime lead. The Lady Bears outscored North Oconee 14-7 in the third to take a 49-32 lead into the fourth.

Claire Carlson added 12 points and 2 assists, while Emma Reynolds added 6 points and 9 rebounds for Cherokee Bluff. Kaitlin Cook had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, and Brooklyn Phillips added 8 points and 2 steals.

Audrey Graham had a big game on defense, swiping 4 steals and taking a charge for the Lady Bears.

Cherokee Bluff next will travel to Chestatee on Tuesday with first place in Region 8-4A North on the line


CHESTATEE 69,
SECKINGER 13

Chestatee stayed perfect in Region 8-4A with a win at the Lynn Cottrell Center on Friday.

The Lady War Eagles (12-4, 4-0 Region 8-4A North) exploded for 20-3 after the first quarter and took a 42-7 advantage into halftime. Chestatee led 57-12 heading into the fourth.

Riley Black recorded another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Lady War Eagles. Jamya Weaver had 11 points and 8 rebounds, Caroline Bull posted 10 points to go with 3 steals, and Addison Boyd and Payton Cable had 9 points each for Chestatee. 

The Lady War Eagles next have a huge subregion showdown with Cherokee Bluff on Tuesday at the Lynn Cottrell Center with first place on the line.


BUFORD 79,
MOUNTAIN VIEW 23

Buford opened its Region 8-7A schedule with a dominating win on Friday at home.

The Lady Wolves (12-1, 1-0 Region 8-7A) outscored the Lady Bears  (4-11, 0-1 Region 8-7A) 32-3 in the first quarter to take quick control. They led 48-18 at halftime. Buford held Mountain View to just 1 point in the fourth quarter.

Ava Grace Watson led Buford with 16 points, 12 coming in the first quarter. Lydia Ledford added 15 points, Emian Field had 10, and Cadence Jenkinson 9 points for the Lady Wolves, who had 11 different players score.

Jenysis Criss paced Mountain View with 12 points.


TALLULAH FALLS 58,
LANIER CHRISTIAN 32

Freshmen Adelyn Gough and Meav Fouts both scored 8 points to lead LCA, who made a 29-point improvement after losing to the Lady Indians by 55 points earlier in the season.

Seniors Moriah Clark and Jia Thapar added 7 points apiece. 

LCA's (7-6) hits the road on Saturday taking on Westminster Christian Academy at 4 p.m.
