ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have extended general manager Alex Anthopoulos to a multi-year contract.
The organization made the announcement via press release on Friday and will extend Anthopoulos through the 2031 season.
"Alex and I have enjoyed a wonderful working relationship, and I look forward to that continuing for many years to come," said Terry McGuirk, chairman and CEO of Braves Holdings, LLC. "I have been around this game a very long time and know that Alex's track record of success is truly something special. There is simply no one better in the business."
Anthopoulos, 46, was originally hired as the club's executive vice president and general manager on November 13, 2017, before being promoted to his current role in February of 2020. In six seasons under his leadership, Atlanta has compiled a 515-354 (.593) record, won six consecutive NL East division titles, and captured the 2021 World Series championship.
"I'd like to thank Terry for his continued support and trust," Anthopoulos said. "The Braves are an incredible organization to be a part of, and I'm proud of the success we've achieved together. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead baseball operations and to strive to bring another World Series to Atlanta."
The Braves' 515 wins under Anthopoulos' direction stand as the third most in baseball since 2018, as do their 24 postseason victories. He was named by Baseball America as the MLB Executive of the Year following the 2022 season and has finished as runner-up for Major League Baseball's Executive of the Year Award in each of the last two years.
