A Gainesville man was arrested on several traffic offenses Friday night after Hall County authorities allegedly witnessed him driving over 120 MPH on I-985 northbound.

B.J. Williams with the Hall County Sherrif’s Office said a traffic deputy observed Axel Anthony Elizarraraz, 21 driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed near the Exit 8 northbound ramp just after 11:30 p.m.

The HCSO traffic deputy reportedly checked the motorcycle driving at 90 mph in a 70 mph speed zone.

The deputy began to pursue Elizarraraz to make a traffic stop.
“The deputy observed Elizarraraz drive between lanes through slower-moving traffic and was able to catch up to him near Exit 12 off-ramp,” Williams said.

Elizarraraz reportedly increased his speed to nearly 125 mph, instead of stopping.

Another HCSO deputy on traffic duty just north of Exit 14 observed the motorcycle approaching.

“He checked the motorcycle's speed at 109 mph and saw Elizarraraz take the Exit 16 off-ramp,” Williams said.

An Oakwood Police Department officer stopped Elizarraraz on Mundy Mill Road and the first HCSO deputy arrived to arrest the suspect.

Elizarraraz was charged with two counts of speeding, reckless driving, fleeing/attempting to elude, failure to maintain lane, driving with the wrong class of license and driving without a license tag.

He was released on Saturday on a bond of $7,650.
