HIAWASSEE, Ga. — It was a record-setting night for Towns County on Friday.

The Indians secured their first winning season since 2008 with a 21-14 win over Spartanburg Christian (SC) at home.

The win for Towns County gave the Indians (5-3) just their third-ever 5-win season. They finished 5-6 in 2017 with their only GHSA playoff appearance. They went 7-3 in 2008 playing a non-region schedule.

Towns County also got several individual records in the win on both sides of the ball.

Dustin Barrett ran for 294 yards and 3 scores, breaking the old school record of 278 yards set by Kyle Oakes. Barrett also had 2 catches for 13 yards and added 10 tackles on defense.

And for the defense, Morgan Walker set a single-game record with 21 tackles, including one TFL, to go with one interception. Walker’s tackle mark broke the old record of 17 set by Seth Gillis.

The Indians rushed for 305 yards on the day and held Spartanburg to just 64 yards passing. Spartanburg rushed for 208 yards for the game.

Towns County is off next week before closing out its season at home on Oct. 25 against Class 74A Southeast Whitfield.
