Hall County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) has released the identity of a deceased body found in a wooded area off Aviation Boulevard in Gainesville during mid-August.

Sheriff Gerald Couch's office says the body of a known member to the Gainesville homeless community, 62-year old Vickie Lynn Barber, was discovered on the afternoon of August 20, 2024 along a steep embankment near Avition Bouelvard by an employee of Mar-Jac Poultry, who was taking a walk of the property in the area.

A release from HCSO says their investigation after the call resulted in their discovery of skeletal remains, which were later transported to the Dekalb County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and confirmation of identity. That examination was not able to determine the time frame from Ms. Barber's death up to the discovery of her body.

HCSO says the medical examiner needed to use serial numbers from medical hardware used during previous surgery on Barber to make a positive identification on October 10. The exact cause and manner of her death has not been determined, where there were no obvious signs of trauma found on the remains.
