Apartment complex fire in Gwinnett County displaces over 20 residents

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Gwinnett County investigators are looking to find what exactly caused an afternoon apartment complex fire on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived after 3:45 p.m. to the call from The Elliot Apartments located at 4047 Northridge Way NW in Norcross.  Upon arrival, first responders reported heavy fire blowing out the windows and attic of a three-story building.

Upon further investigation, crews observed an adult male attempting to break a window on the front side of the building. Gwinnett Copunty Fire officials say in a press release that a bystander initially informed firefighters that a child was trapped inside. Rescue teams rapidly entered the apartment and searched for victims. Search teams later determined the apartment was vacant.

Fire crews deployed multiple fire hoses to control the flames. Firefighters achieved knockdown of the flames at 4:20 p.m.

No injuries were reported in this incident. Apartment managers began working with the American Red Cross Wednesday afternoon to initiate emergency assistance for the twenty tenants displaced by the fire.
