Week 11 notebook: Nix still leads 3A passing; other NEGa area players in top 10 in yardage

Heading into the final two weeks of the season, several northeast Georgia players are still in the top 10 in their respective classifications in rushing, passing, and receiving.

(All stats are provided by Georgia High School Football Daily.)

One northeast Georgia area passer continues to lead his classification with two others in the top four of their classifications as they try to chase down the leaders. Four are in the top 50. 

Five area players are still in the top 50 in rushing. Three are in the top 33 in receiving.

White County’s Tripp Nix is still managing to hold onto the passing lead in Class 3A with 1,969 yards, and has climbed into 10th overall in the state heading into the Warriors’ matchup with Chestatee tonight. He leads Cherokee Bluff’s Brooks Brien (1,750 yards), who remained 2nd in 3A and 19th overall.

Gainesville’s Kharim Hughley remained 7th overall in the state, now with 1,2,087 yards but is just 4th in a wide-open Class 5A. Habersham Central’s Paris Wilbanks dropped to 38th overall with 1,594 yards after a bye last week.

Commerce’s Tysean Wiggins now leads the NEGa area in rushing with 1,202 yards, which is good for 16th overall and 2nd in Class A D1. Rabun County’s Reid Giles is 3rd in Class A D1 with 1,090 yards and 24th overall. Zayden Cook of Chattooga leads Class A D1 and the state with 1,959 yards.

West Hall’s Elijah Hayes dropped to 4th in Class 3A and 26th overall with 1,083 yards rushing. Benjamin Plemons of Chestatee has climbed into 5th in 3A and 35th overall with 1,021 yards. Dustin Barrett of Towns County is 46th overall with 914 yards.

In receiving, Habersham Central’s Zeke Whittingham dropped a spot to 16th overall with 772 yards after an off week for the Raiders, which is good for just 6th in the wide-open Class 5A.

Cherokee Bluff’s K.T. Thompson is now 17th overall with 753 yards, and 2nd in 3A, 344 behind Cody Bryan of Heritage-Ringgold, who is 2nd in the state and leads Class 3A with 1,097 yards. Gainesville’s Jeremiah Ware is 33rd overall with 675 yards.
