Officials across Georgia are remembering Georgia's Labor Secretary Bruce Thompson this week, following his passing over the weekend.
A press release from the Georgia Department of Labor Office on Sunday night confirmed his recent passing, and paid tribute to his lifetime of service, noting that Bruce launched his first business at the age of 10 and went on to build a remarkable portfolio of ventures, including two automatic pool cover companies, six insurance agencies, two funeral homes, and several software firms before being led to the Georgia State Senate in 2013 representing the Cartersville area, and most recently as State Labor Commissioner. The GDOL release also notes that he was a strong supporter of mentoring leadership in a profound belief: no person is too small, no challenge is too great, and no cause is too far gone.
With the spirit of a fighter but the compassion required of a strong faith, Bruce was known as a mentor to many in the business community and political arena.
Above all, Bruce cherished his role as a father. Thompson is survived by his wife Becky, his son, Max, and his daughter Faith, along with many cherished friends. He was 59 years of age.
No further details have been released about any upcoming services for Thompson, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March of this year.
