Roughly one-acre of land charred after controlled fires go awry in Habersham Co.

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

A pair of controlled-fires that got out of control led to about an acre of land being charred in Habersham County on Wednesday.

Habersham County officials report that the first fire occurred on Fairview School Road when ash from a land-clearing burn landed on dry leaves in a yard across the road.

That fire charred about a half-acre, though no injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

The second fire occurred at around 3 p.m. while personnel were still working the first fire.

That fire was at Old Mill Road, when units arrived to find a pile of logs burning with fire spread into the nearby woods.

Firefighters doused the logs and surrounding areas with water.

No structures and no injuries were reported in that fire as well, although another half-acre was burned.
