Dawson County has found its next head football coach.
Former Rabun County head coach Jaybo Shaw has been hired as the Tigers' 15th head football coach.
The Dawson County Board of Education approved the hire on Tuesday. Shaw will replace Sid Maxwell, who retired in Dawsonville last month after 10 years.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Jaybo Shaw and his family,” Dawson County Athletics Director Bradley Fowler said. “We are excited about the future of Dawson County High School football.”
Shaw left Wayne County in February to take the head coaching position at Greenville High School in South Carolina. The Red Raiders finished 2-9.
Prior to Greenville, Shaw turned around Wayne County’s program, leading them to 7-4 and 10-3 seasons.
Shaw’s first head coaching job was at Rabun County, where he guided the Wildcats to a 35-5 record from 2019-2021. He ended the 2021 campaign in the quarterfinals with a 49-21 loss to Thomasville. The Wildcats were 12-1, 12-2 and 11-2 in his three seasons at the helm. Shaw led the Wildcats to three region championships, two quarterfinal appearances, and one semifinal.
Before his time as head coach at Rabun County, Shaw was the offensive coordinator for his father, Lee Shaw, at the mountain school.
Shaw was an all-state quarterback at Flowery Branch and played at Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech. He succeeded his father in 2018 at Rabun County. It was his first head coaching job.
