Kennesaw man arrested in Habersham County vehicle pursuit

A Kennesaw man sustained minor injuries and was arrested following a pursuit with a Habersham County Sheriff's Office HEAT unit early Monday morning. 

 A deputy with the unit reportedly  stopped a blue Infinity driven by Steven Kristopher Wilke, 36, on Ga. 365 southbound near Cody Rd. at 12:23 a.m. on Monday. As the Deputy excited his vehicle, Wilke fled in his vehicle, initiating the pursuit. The vehicle turned around and traveled north on Ga. 15 turned left onto Talmadge Drive in Hollywood, then turned right onto Old Historic 441, according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. 

A report from the department said Wilke then went to the intersection of Old Historic 441 at Ga. 15/ U.s. 441 and crashed into the guardrail on the northbound side. 

Wilke was taken into custody then transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for treatment. He then was returned to the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville just before 6 a.m. Monday.

Wilke is charged with two counts of driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving while license suspended or revoked, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, failure to obey stop sign, headlight requirements, and giving wrong signal.

He remained in jail Monday morning.
