Oakwood Man arrested on hit and run, D.U.I. charges after two crashes

An Oakwood man was arrested on Wednesday after two hit-and-run accidents.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said Mateo Fernandez, 23, was driving his vehicle on the wrong side of the road on Memorial Park Drive and struck another car at Centennial Drive. 

The driver of the vehicle that was hit was left with minor injuries.

Fernandez allegedly fled the scene of the crash and several minutes later, he crashed into a trash can and mailbox on Mountain View Road at Hilldale Road

Sheriff’s office officials said he left the crash scene again but was detained by Oakwood Police Department Officers on Mountain View Road at Holiday Lane.

Fernandez was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, open container violation, two counts of duty to stop at accident (hit and run, leaving the scene), two counts of failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, driving while license suspended/revoked and tires – no metal tire contact on any roadways.

He remains in the Hall County Jail on $19,050 bond.
