Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club to hold 27th annual Polar Bear Plunge

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club will hold its 27th annual Polar Bear Plunge and Paddle on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

The New Year's Day fundraiser allows community members to jump into 2025 by paying to plunge into the water as a group. LCKC director Kim Martin shared  on WDUN’s Mornings on Maine Street Friday the event will also feature activities for those who do not want to jump in the water.

“We will start the morning off with a paddle,” Martin said, “ So for folks who don't want to jump in the water, they can get in a kayak or canoe, and we'll take them out on a little tour and just an easy paddle and come back, and then if they want to jump in at noon, we will be throwing folks in the water.”

Those interested in participating in the paddle should arrive at the venue by 10 a.m. and be prepared to be on the water by 10:30 a.m. The non-profit  will also hand out awards for categories including “Best Jump” and “Best Costume”.

The event will take place at the LCKC docs located at 3105 Clarks Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA.  The Cost of registration to participate in the Plunge is $30, while Paddle registration is $35. Those interested can register here
