The Georgia Diaper Bank Coalition recently launched its new website to help advocate for families across Georgia.
The website serves to help families find assistance at their closest diaper bank and to provide information about diaper needs to the public, according to a release from the GDBC.
The Coalition strives to connect and support diaper banks across Georgia while raising awareness of diaper needs and advocating for families at the local, state, and federal levels. The four founding diaper bank members of the Coalition include Helping Mamas in Norcross, Athens Area Diaper Bank in Athens, Over the Moon Diaper Bank in Savannah, and Diaper Bank of North Georgia in Gainesville. All partners in this coalition are members of the National Diaper Bank Network.
“Our coalition is made up of incredible organizations and individuals who are motivated and passionate, and we're proud to work together," Erin Campbell, Founder and Executive Director for Athens Area Diaper Bank said.
The Georgia Diaper Bank Coalition received funding from the National Diaper Bank Network to support the creation and launch of the website, which will support the Coalition’s advocacy efforts at the state level.
The diaper banks within the Georgia Diaper Bank Coalition all address diaper needs, which is when a family cannot provide the steady supply of diapers that their child needs to stay clean, dry, and healthy.
According to a recent National Diaper Bank Network study, diaper need affects 47% of families in the United States. When faced with diaper needs, a family is forced to choose to spend money on diapers or other basic needs such as food, rent, and utilities, the release said.
Ultimately, GDBC says diaper need is a jobs issue: without enough diapers, children cannot be left at childcare, and without childcare, parents cannot go to work or school.
