Boys basketball playoffs: Pickens reaches 7-3A title game with win over Lumpkin; Dawson County falls in semis

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Dodge Davis scored 15 points, and Caleb Lanford had 14 to lead Pickens past Lumpkin County, 51-35, in the semifinals of the Region 7-3A tournament at Lumpkin County on Thursday. 

Cal Faulkner paced the Indians with 17 points. 

The Dragons led 29-20 at the half and 38-26 at the end of the third. Pickens outscored Lumpkin 30-15 in the second half to get the win.

DAWSON COUNTY 60

The Bobcats (17-8) jumped out to a 36-23 lead at the half en route to the 14-point win in the semifinals of the Region 7-3A tournament on Thursday at Lumpkin County. 

In the second half, the Bobcats pushed the lead to 13 points, 56-43, and Dawson County allowed Gilmer 7-foot big man Jackson Mcvey to score 14 of his 26 game-high points in the final period. 

Trey Harvey led Dawson County (15-12) with 18 points, while Ethan Parker chipped in 10. 

Gilmer will play Pickens in the region championship on Saturday. Dawson County will battle Lumpkin County in the consolation game. Both games will be at Lumpkin County.
