Boys basketball: Banks County hires Butler as new head coach

HOMER, Ga. — Banks County has hired Chuck Butler as its new boy's basketball coach, the school announced on Tuesday on the school's website.

Butler replaces Ryan Griffin, who stepped down after the season. The Leopards finished 14-11 and missed the Class 2A state playoffs this season.

Butler, who led the Jackson County boys program to the Class 3A Sweet 16 in 2016, the school's first appearance in 14 seasons, has spent the last few years as an assistant principal at Banks County Middle School.

"I am beyond excited to embark on this journey as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Banks County High School," Butler said in the release. "Having served as an assistant principal and previously as a head coach in Jackson County, I am ready to return to the court and work tirelessly to build upon the proud legacy of Leopard Basketball.

"We have a great opportunity to succeed at Banks County. I desire to build a solid program with a great work ethic and positive attitude that embodies discipline in all facets of our program on and off the court. In my experience, these requirements must be evident in your program to achieve the success that all teams aspire towards. When we all work together with great effort, humility, and discipline, we could soon find ourselves competing for championships. We have a lot of talent to work with, and if they all work to star in their role on the team, we could quickly make some noise in not only our region but also the state", Butler shared.
