Baseball: NHall no-hits Cedar Shoals in 8-4A win; WGrove upsets No. 1 Bluff; Hab beats GHS

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — North Hall won its third straight game on Wednesday in a Region 8-4A crossover game at Lynn Cottrell Field.

Charlie Wright, Andrew Bales, and Micah Jimerson all drove in three runs, and Jon Jon Read added a pair of RBI to lead North Hall to a 15-0 win in four innings over Cedar Shoals.

Mills Lothridge, Kian Allen, and Jake Beard combined on a no-hitter, with Lothridge getting the win. The trio combined for six strikeouts and walked just one.

North Hall will travel to Seckinger next in another Region 8-4A crossover game on Friday.


WALNUT GROVE 7, 
CHEROKEE BLUFF 4

Ninth-ranked Walnut Grove (8-3) scored three runs in the eighth inning to upset Class 4A top-ranked Cherokee Bluff (9-2) on Wednesday in Flowery Branch.  

Alec Clayton broke up the tie in the eighth with a double that scored the go-ahead run. Moments later, Thomas Burke’s sacrifice fly added two more runs. 

Thomas Burke turned in a dominant performance on the hill for the Warriors, striking out 11 Bears while allowing four runs on three hits in four innings of work.

After Bluff went ahead, 1-0, in the bottom of the first, Walnut Grove scored four runs off a back-to-back doubles and an error and triple to take a 4-1 advantage. 

Bluff added a run in the third when Ty Corbin scored off a passed ball and would tie it up in the fourth, 4-4, on a single by Tanaka Mukono and an error that brought Landon Kemp to the plate. 

Jacob Vokal went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bears. KT Thompson and Mukono each added one hit. 


HABERSHAM CENTRAL 1,
GAINESVILLE 0

The Raiders' one run in the third inning from Maverick Chitwood was all they needed behind a solid pitching outing from Konner Burrell to knock off Gainesville. 

Burrell struck out 10 Red Elephants (3-6, 0-2), allowed four hits, and walked one in the Raiders' complete-game performance (8-1, 2-0). 

Meanwhile, Gainesville’s Cooper Reid had a stellar game on the mound as well, giving up four hits, one run, and one walk while recording 12 Ks. 

Smith McGarvey led Gainesville with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. 

Charlie Mills, Callum Spivey, Maverick Chitwood and Kaleb Chastain had one hit each for the Raiders.
