Soccer: Shakeup possible in 8-6A as top teams battle for boys and girls

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Non-region action dominates the prep soccer action on Friday, with only a few region matchups across northeast Georgia.

However, the biggest showdowns of the night will take place in Region 8-6A.

On the boys side, Class 6A 10th-ranked North Forsyth (9-0, 5-0 Region 8-6A) takes on Habersham Central (6-1, 4-0 Region 8-6A) at Raider Valley with first place on the line. North Forsyth has outscored its opponents 39-11 and has scored four or more goals in five straight matches. Habersham Central, meanwhile, has surrendered just two total goals during a five-match win streak, four of those coming in region play.

On the girls side in Region 8-6A, the top four teams all play each on Friday with some shakeup possible. Jackson County (5-3-1, 4-1 Region 8-6A) is tied with Habersham Central (5-2, 4-1 Region 8-6A) atop the standings. Jackson County plays host to Lanier (3-5, 3-2 Region 8-6A) while Habersham Central travels to North Forsyth (4-4-1, 3-2 Region 8-6A). Lanier and North Forsyth are tied for third.

However, storms are expected to hit the area with a 90 percent chance of rain near kickoff. AccessWDUN Sports will update this if/when teams move games.
