Baseball scoreboard: NoFo uses late innings to beat GHS; Jefferson, CHS, Jackson Co., Buford all win

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — North Forsyth scored four straight runs in two innings to knock off Gainesville, 5-2, at Ivey Watson Field on Wednesday. 

The game was tied 1-1 in the fifth inning, but NoFo (8-6, 2-1 Region 8-6A) added one run in the sixth and three in the seventh to take the four-run lead. 

Early on, the Raiders struck first when Brady Holbrook stole home to go up 1-0. 

However, Gainesville (4-7, 1-3 Region 8-6A) answered in the fifth inning to tie the game with a Tyler Rothel single. 

North took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning off a Trey Windham RBI single. 

In the seventh, Jace Cahill scored on a fielder's choice. Seth Dixon singled in Holbrook, and Ellis Alldredge scored on the throw to home for the 5-1 lead. 

Gainesville added a run in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out Asher Stephens double that brought home Walker Dubose. Stephens was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Big Red at the plate. 

Dixon earned the win, allowing four hits, two runs, seven strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work. 

Dixon also led the Raiders at the plate with a 3-for-4 two RBI performance.

CHESTATEE 15,
EAST HALL 0

Chestatee (9-6, 5-2 Region 8-4A) scattered 15 runs over four innings to run-rule East Hall at East Hall Park on Wednesday. 

Jake Hitchcock was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit and striking out six. 

Hitchcock also was 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. 

Dylan Thompson, Eli Chaffin and Colton Wilbanks all had two hits. Wilbanks recorded two RBIs. 


JEFFERSON 11,
FLOWERY BRANCH 0

Jefferson (7-7, 3-0) took the Region 8-5A lead with the shutout win over Flowery Branch at home on Wednesday. 

The Dragons scored nine runs in the fourth inning to blow open the game. Steven Tavares highlighted the big inning with a solo home run. They also scored three runs on three errors, a double, a single and sac fly. 

Eston Simpson picked up the win for the Dragons. He surrendered one hit over fine innings while striking out six and walking three. 

Tristan Browning was 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Falcons (5-7, 2-1). 


JACKSON COUNTY 15, 
LANIER 5

After going down 3-0 in the top of the first inning, Jackson County scored nine runs on three hits in the bottom and never looked back in the run-rule win over the Longhorns at home on Wednesday. 

Lanier's Dillon Keelin belted a two-run home run over the left-field fence in the first inning to give the Longhorns a hot start. 

But it wouldn't last for long. 

To open the first, the Panthers reached base on two hits by a pitch and a walk. They then scored runs on an error, a Brice Branton single, an error, a Sam Bradley double, and a Mitchell Bryce Single. 

Lanier added a run in the third, but Jackson County answered with five more to take a 14-4 lead after four innings. 


BUFORD 11,
MOUNTAIN VIEW 5

When the Wolves (8-4, 2-0 Region 8-7A) rallied to the lead in the third inning, it was over. 

The Wolves took the lead after Georgia Tech-commit Ethan Murray was intentionally walked to load the bases for Cam Wood. Wood ripped a two-RBI single up the middle to cut the lead to 3-2. The Wolves added two more runs in the inning to go up for good 4-3.

Buford blew the game open in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs off of six walks in the inning and two singles. 

Sophomore reliever Ayden Lockett pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth thing inning and tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to seal the game for the Wolves. 

Braden Burton picked up the win on the mound for the Wolves, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up five hits, three runs, six strikeouts, and two walks. 

Locket and Wood each had a hit and two RBIs. Murray and Black Russell had one hit each.
